The Client
Roatan Real Estate is a boutique brokerage based on Roatan Island, Honduras. The founder manages 40+ property listings (residential villas, commercial real estate, development land) across multiple neighborhoods and price points ($250k to $3m+). He competes with much larger mainland firms by offering personalized service and deep local knowledge.
His old site was a generic WordPress template that didn't reflect his positioning as the island's #1 local expert. Prospective international buyers couldn't search by neighborhood, price, or amenities. There was no way to filter luxury properties from development parcels. He needed a professional listing database platform.
The Brief
Roatan Real Estate chose the Scale tier ($4,997), which includes up to 10 custom-designed pages, property search functionality, CRM integration, and advanced features. Here's what he needed:
- Homepage — Market leadership, featured listings, call-to-action for inquiries
- Advanced Property Search — Filter by neighborhood, price, property type, amenities
- Property Detail Pages — Gallery, specs, legal status, location map, agent contact
- Neighborhood Guide — Roatan's communities with local context and available properties
- About + Broker Bio — Credentials, licensing, local expertise, testimonials
- Blog — Guides to expat living, investment opportunities, neighborhood spotlights
- Contact + Scheduling — Property inquiry form, call routing, calendar integration
- Legal/Admin Pages — Privacy, terms, agent disclosures (critical in international real estate)
The 3-Day Build
Research + Architecture
We started with a 90-minute intake call where the founder walked us through: his ideal buyers (international expats, investors, retirees), his top neighborhoods (West Bay, Half Moon Bay, Sandy Bay), his pricing structure, and the types of properties he manages (luxury villas, commercial, raw land). We reviewed his 40+ current listings and competitor sites.
We recommended a clean, trust-focused design system (ocean blues, tropical accents) that positions him as a professional local expert. We architected a searchable property database with filters for price, neighborhood, property type, and amenities. By evening, he approved wireframes for all 8+ pages including a working property search prototype.
Design + Database Build
We designed the full visual system: an ocean-inspired palette (Caribbean Blue #0066B3, Ocean Green #009966, Sand #F5E6D3) with clean sans-serif typography and professional photography styling. The design emphasizes trust and expertise — not flash.
We built all 8+ pages in production HTML/CSS with a backend property database: searchable listings by neighborhood/price/type, detail pages for each property with gallery, location maps, legal specs, and agent contact info. We wired up the contact form to a CRM for automated lead capture and follow-up.
Property Import + Launch
We migrated his 40+ current listings into the new database with clean specs, photos, and pricing. We tested the search functionality across 50+ device/browser combinations. We set up legal pages covering international real estate disclosures and Honduran property law basics (required for marketing to international buyers).
The founder reviewed the full site on mobile (his primary workflow) and approved with zero revisions. We deployed to hosting and went live in time for his presentation at the Roatan Tourism Conference.
Design Decisions
Color Palette
We chose ocean and tropical tones to reflect Roatan's natural beauty while maintaining professional credibility. The palette signals "local expert who loves this island" without being touristy.
Key UX Decisions
- Searchable property database as homepage hero — Visitors land and immediately search properties. This is the primary value prop.
- Neighborhood context on property pages — Each listing includes area guides, market data, and lifestyle information (not just photos and specs).
- Mobile-optimized property galleries — Photos load fast, pinch-to-zoom works, full-screen slideshows available. Critical for international buyers browsing on phones.
- Legal disclosures visible — International real estate requires transparency about property rights, taxes, and Honduran law. We made these pages prominent, not hidden.
- Agent bio with credentials — Buyers are sending money across borders. They need to trust the broker. Photos, licensing, testimonials all above the fold.
- Blog for SEO and authority — "Expat Guide to Roatan," "Investment Opportunities," "Neighborhood Spotlights" — content that ranks in search and positions him as expert.

Results
Roatan Real Estate went live the morning of his tourism conference presentation. He announced the new site during his talk to 500+ industry professionals. Here's what happened:
— David Martinez, Founder, Roatan Real Estate
Key Takeaways
- Database functionality at scale requires tight constraints. We delivered 8+ pages + a searchable property database in 72 hours by focusing on core functionality. No unnecessary features, no bloat.
- Real estate buyers are serious. They need legal clarity, not marketing fluff. Transparent terms, clear disclosures, and professional tone convert better than emotional appeals.
- Mobile-first is non-negotiable for real estate. Buyers are browsing properties on their phones at 10pm. Fast image loading, full-screen galleries, and seamless contact forms are table stakes.
- SEO matters when you're local. The blog pages optimized for "expat living in Roatan" and "invest in Caribbean real estate" drive qualified traffic. This wasn't an afterthought.
- Fixed pricing reduces scope creep at scale. Real estate is complex. Without a fixed price, projects drift. The $4,997 price forced prioritization and delivered the highest-impact features first.
